Students will be able to login to Minecraft: Education Edition with their AISD email address. (Students can find this in the AISD Portal's User Profile menu.) After entering an AISD email the student will be asked to type their student ID and password in an AISD Portal popup window. This will occur regardless of the device that the student is using. This page contains links below for installing Minecraft: Education Edition on any device used by students. Scroll down to the device you are using for specific instructions. Before installing a personal computer at home, students should speak to their parents. After Minecraft: Education Edition is installed, you will need to log in each time using your Austin ISD account: YouTube video Instructions for installing on Austin ISD Student Chromebooks Austin ISD Chromebooks capable of running the Android version of Minecraft: Education Edition will require you to access the Minecraft installation page on the Google Play Store. Chromebooks for students will be able to locate the Google Play icon in the Chromebook Shelf at the bottom of the device screen. Only apps that have been approved by districts are available for download in the Google Play store app. Click on the Minecraft Install button on Google Play. This video will demonstrate how to install Minecraft Education Edition on your AISD Chromebook. Instructions for installing on non-Austin ISD Windows Computers Click the purple Windows button to download Minecraft: Education Edition Windows Desktop Edition. You will need to locate the downloaded file and open it. (It should either be in a new tab at the bottom of the browser, or in the Windows Downloads folder.) The Windows operating system will guide you through the installation process. Select your language and agree to the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until you are asked to click the Install button. The installation could take several minutes before you see a Finish button which will close the installation. Instructions for Installing on Macintosh Computers Click the purple MAC button to download Minecraft Education Edition for Macintosh. You will need to locate the downloaded file and then open it. It should be located in the Downloads folder or a new tab at the bottom. The Macintosh operating systems will guide you through the installation process. Select your language and accept the End-User License Agreement. Continue clicking Next until you are asked to click the "Install" button. It is possible that the installation will take a while before you can see the Finish button. This will end the installation. Instructions to install on iPads Students can access Minecraft on an Austin ISD student iPad once their teacher has installed the Minecraft: Education Edition app on the student's AISD iPad. Minecraft servers list The app can be found in the Creator Apps group on the iPad during the school day. Download Minecraft onto your iPad from the iTunes Store. The app is free download. The button below will show you the app on the iTunes store. Screencastify Screen Capture Extension Installation A live demonstration of learning can be a valuable method of demonstrating the concept. Screen capture using video is a fantastic way for teachers to give an online demonstration activity or for students to capture an electronic product using their recorded voice, which describes the product. Screencastify is a Chrome extension approved by Austin ISD. Students and staff can add the extension to their Chrome Web Store. Instructions for Students Installing Screencastify Austin Independent School District Chrome Web Store is available to students. From there, any approved app can be downloaded. This is the only method to install an Chrome app or Chrome extension on an Austin ISD Chromebook. On the Chromebook, open the Chrome launcher, search and open the Chrome Web Store app. To see the approved apps list, click the Austin Independent School District link. Locate and install Screencastify on this page. The video below demonstrates how to get access to the Chrome Web Store and install Screencastify. Capture Your Video Once the Screencastify extension is installed, all students are able to create a video that is up to 5 minutes in length. Make sure you practice your group presentation before you start recording. The video of your presentation should not exceed 2 minutes long.
